Abstract

This paper addresses the question of locating healthcare facilities, with the aid of some of the most important location models: P-median model, set and maximal covering models and P-center model. An experiment was carried out in a real situation, in a Brazilian city, seeking to confront the current sites configuration with optimal solutions proposed by the location models. Valuable results have been generated, showing the effectiveness of the models and permitting to highlight the strong points of each approach. The paper presents a discussion of all these results and describes the case under study, the models and the experiment.
